Buckinghamshire Youth Bus

The Youth Bus is a subsidised bus service which will enable Youth Groups who join the scheme the opportunity of hiring a bus of the size required, together with a driver, at an affordable cost.

The service is administered by Buckinghamshire Community Action (BCA) and funded by the National Lottery's Big Lottery fund.

Terms and Conditions

  • The scheme is available to established youth groups.
  • Annual Group membership fee is £20.
  • The fares per person will vary according to size of bus and distance travelled but on average can be expected to be between £1.50 and £3.50.
  • Journeys must be supervised by at least two youth leaders from the hiring group and for larger groups have a ratio of one adult to every ten young people.
  • Vehicles will be hired from a local bus operator to the size required by the youth group.
  • The Criminal Records Bureau must have checked all the drivers and supervisors.
  • The journeys will be subsidised up to 60%.
  • Available to young people between the ages of 8 and 18 years and up to 25 years for clients with special educational needs.
  • Transport must be requested a minimum of two weeks prior to the planned journey, and on a booking form. The preferred method of booking form receipt is email.
  • In the event of cancellation, 72 hours notice is required, or BCA will request that the Youth Group pay the full cost of transport.
  • Youth Leaders must have undertaken risk assessments for their trips and have their own public liability insurance, and should be able to provide BCA with copies of these if requested.
  • Youth Leaders are responsible for the behaviour of young people on the trips and BCA have the right to refuse any group future trips if the bus companies have reported inappropriate, dangerous or threatening behaviour by any groups using the scheme. Any cleaning or repair costs incurred as a result of this will be invoiced to the Youth Group.
  • BCA will make initial contact and booking with the appropriate bus company. Following this any changes or enquiries must be discussed between the Youth Group and bus company, and BCA should be notified of any significant changes affecting cost. Drop off and collection points will be agreed and confirmed prior to the event.
  • Invoices for trips will be sent no longer than one month following the event, and must be paid within a month.
  • BCA may request that some photographs are taken on the trips for publicity and funding purposes and will provide parent/carer publicity request forms for this purpose; however youth groups/individuals have the right to refuse to take part in publicity.
