Precautions against burglary
Here's a bright idea ... leave a light on! As the clocks go back and the nights draw in, Aylesbury Vale residents are being asked to use light timer switches.
In response to the expected rise in burglaries after the clocks go back, Aylesbury Vale Community Safety Partnership are working on an initiative to help residents such as commuters and late night shoppers who get home after dark.
Consider using your timer light to leave a light on if you plan to return home after dark, and regularly vary the on and off times. You can pick up a light timer in local stores and supermarkets for about £2.
"A home in darkness between 4pm and 9pm tells potential burglars that nobody's home. By using timer light switches, preferably fitted with a low energy bulb, residents can protect their property by creating the impression that someone is home" says Kama Wager, Crime Reduction Officer. "We want to make residents who return home after dark aware of simple steps they can take to make their home more secure."
From October staff from Thames Valley Police and the District Council Community Safety Team will be at locations across the Vale handing out information about how to secure homes effectively against burglaries.
