Village shop taster May 16th 2009

The Village Shop Committee organised their first event, to share with the Bedding Plant Sale. The day started very blustery, and our initial decision to locate our show in the car park on our proposed initial shop site proved dubious, so with Helen and Karen's blessing we moved round to the front of the Village Hall, a much more sheltered spot.

Despite the indifferent weather, we raised £108 from sales of our taster wares. We were very encouraged by the considerable interest in how the shop was developing. Everyone appreciated how large a task it is. Although we would all like to know exactly when the shop will open, it's better to get things right at the start so we can be sure of success.

The prize draw

Well done to Tricia McSweeney, who won the prize hamper. Tricia has offered to supply the shop with cakes and preserves – I'm not sure if there's a connection here!

The Village Shop Committee is active in bringing back a shop to North Marston.

Thanks to Karl's Bakery for supplying samples of bakery products. Karl's produce raised over £60 for the Meningitis charity. His bread and Danish pastries proved very popular! The English Cheese tasting stimulated palates and interest.

And thanks to Simon Williams' parents, who loaned us equipment and gave a fruit cake, to our local Councillor Sue Polhill, who loaned us the excellent gazebo and came to support us on the day, and to Cynthia Hall for her help and support.
