We have provided a range of contact details for essential organisations and services that will be useful for new and existing residents in North Marston.
This page does not include details of activities or things to do; you can see details of these from the "Clubs and Organisations" menu - and the Community Organisations in Surrounding Villages page enables you to search by location and/or service type if you wish.
In an emergency, dial 999 and ask for the service that you require (police, fire, ambulance).

The inclusion of an organisation or business in the below directory should not be taken as an endorsement from North Marston Parish Council. We are not responsible for the content of external sites, nor are we responsible for the service you receive from these organisations and businesses.

In common with most areas, it is very rare that opportunities arise for adults to register with an NHS Dentist in the local area. You can use the NHS website to search for dentists and the returned results will inform you if the dentist is taking on new NHS patients.

The village is not connected to mains gas, so you will not need to register for gas or transfer your current gas provider if you are moving into the village from an area that has mains gas.
Most houses use oil for heating. You will be responsible for checking when you are running low and ordering more oil. There are various devices that monitor your oil level and it is strongly advised that you invest in one. Some devices will even order more oil for you when you reach a certain level in your tank.
Oil is very market sensitive and you will notice that prices change on a daily basis. You can use a site such as Boiler Juice (up to the minute prices - and has an urgent delivery option) or Oil Club (locks in the best price once a week) to find a supplier that offers the best rate.
Alternatively, both Butler Fuels and Lovell Fuels have local depots to cut down on delivery mileage.
If your house uses gas for heating then you will need to order directly from the supplier, or find a suitable reseller. Both Flogas and Calor are worth considering.
North Marston is connected to the National Grid and you will, therefore, be able to choose an electricity supplier in the same way as you would from most UK locations. You can use a price comparison site or transfer your existing supplier.
North Marston is connected to the BT network, which means that landline phone services are available from a range of providers. You can use a price comparison site or transfer your existing supplier. Note the section regarding broadband below.
Mobile signals in the village are generally good with various providers, but it is worth checking coverage with a particular supplier before you commit to contract because some are better than others.
The BT network in North Marston is still using copper lines, so you will get limited speeds on broadband from the major providers who all share the BT lines.
You do have options for fast internet. Gigaclear provides fibre to the premises across the majority of the village. Alternatively, Rapid Rural uses a wireless solution and offers full coverage in North Marston.
Since April 2020, Buckinghamshire Council is the unitary council for the whole of Buckinghamshire (we used to additionally fall under Aylesbury Vale District Council).
The Buckinghameshire Council website provides a gateway to services acrorss the council. We have provided some brief highlights below.
Most properties will have three bins (waste, mixed recycling and food) although some properties may be provided with bags rather than bins if access is challenging. Food waste is collected weekly, whilst waste and recycling alternate so that they are only collected once a fortnight.
Generally, bins across North Marston are collected on a Monday but this does change with bank holidays - and this may become outdated if the council change the collection days. You are advised to check the day of your next bin collection from the council website.
If your property does not have the full complement of bins, then you can order new ones from the council website. You can also request a different size bin if you meet the criteria.
The Council also offers a garden waste service, which is a payable subscription. You can find more details on the council website here.
North Marston CofE Primary School is based in the village and provides a highly regarded education for children from Reception (age 4) to Year 6 (age 11). Each year has an intake of approximately 15 children and this usually means that children within the village are able to get a place.
Other local primary schools include Whitchurch Combined School, Quainton CofE Combined School and East Claydon Primary School.
For secondary aged children, aged 11 and above, North Marston falls within the catchment for both The Cottlesloe School in Wing and The Buckingham School. These schools both admit children at the age of 11 without reference to aptitude or ability.
As Buckinghamshire Council operates a grammar school system, we also fall within the catchment of The Royal Latin School in Buckingham, although children will need to pass the 11 plus exam to be eligible for a place here.
Sir Thomas Fremantle is a Free School in Winslow, which does not have a catchment area and is actually our closest secondary school. You are able to apply for schools outside of the catchment area, but acceptance is not guaranteed. Further details are available via the School Finder service on the Buckinghamshire Council website.
For preschool children, Schorne Preschool offers high quality childcare and preschool learning opportunities from Monday to Friday. If you are looking for extended hour nursery provision, then Ashbourne Nurseries at Swanbourne offers a local provision to be considered.
Winslow Community Library is our closest library and is currently open on Mondays, Wednesday mornings, Fridays and Saturday mornings. Steeple Claydon also has a Community Library, which is currently open on Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings, Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
Aylesbury has a large library that is open every day except Sunday, including extended hours on Tuesday until 7pm. Buckingham Library is open every day except Monday and Sunday (Saturday is morning only and Tuesday offers extended hours until 6pm).
The Number 60 bus runs through North Marston on its journey between Aylesbury and Buckingham (and return). The service runs approximately every two hours throughout the day.
The closest train station is Aylesbury Vale Parkway and trains run approximately hourly into London Marylebone, with journeys taking just over an hour. More frequent trains are available from Aylesbury, whilst Leighton Buzzard should also be considered as the journey time into London Euston is as little as 30 minutes. You can also head north into Birmingham from Leighton Buzzard, whilst Milton Keynes provides fast inter-city services to a range of destinations. Haddenham and Thame Parkway provides a further option for both London-bound and northbound connections via a different route. Winslow Station will be opening in 2025 and will provide an East-West connection to Oxford and Bletchley.
There are a few small taxi companies based in Winslow and the surrounding areas but it is worth considering one of the larger companies based in either Aylesbury (Falcon Taxis, Jet Taxis, ABC Taxis, Cabs 4U) or Milton Keynes (Skyline Taxis, 247 Taxiline) if you need an urgent taxi. Generally speaking, prices to or from town (e.g. Aylesbury or Milton Keynes) will be cheaper than journeys between smaller destinations, even if the distance is actually longer. This is because taxis consider the total cost of the journey, including the time taken for the driver to reach you when they have no passengers.
If you, or your friends and family, are looking for nearby accommodation then there are a wealth of options (at all budgets) in the local area.
The Stables Bed and Breakfast at Peartree Cottage is located in the village and offers two comfortable rooms in a converted stable block. Slightly futher afield, The Bell Hotel in Winslow offers a range of accommodation options.
Both Aylesbury and Buckingham have a conveniently located Premier Inn on the road into town from North Marston and both towns also offer a Travelodge (Aylesbury here and Buckingham here). Aylesbury also offers a large Holiday Inn, although this is on the other side of town.
If you are looking for something a bit more special, then you might wish to consider Horwood House Manor Hotel, Villiers Hotel in Buckingham, The Five Arrows Boutique Hotel or even Hartwell House Hotel & Spa.
North Marston has a village shop, which is open every day except Sunday (Saturday is morning only). The shop offers over 1000 different items, from all the household basics to high quality locally sourced goods in a convenient, environmentally friendly location.
Winslow has three shops (Co-Op, One Stop and Londis), which are all broadly the same size and offer extended hour options for day-to-day shopping needs. Winslow also has an independent butchers and delicatessen as well as a few cafes and a market on Wednesdays. There is also a Sainsburys Local in Berryfields (about 4.5 miles away) and Whitchurch has a well regarded butchers (Parrott Brothers) on Bushmead Road. Additionally, Karl's Bakery in Steeple Claydon offers delivery to the village.
In terms of larger food shops, there are two Tescos, two Sainsburys stores, a Morrisons and a Waitrose in Aylesbury, as well as a Tesco and Waitrose in Buckingham. Marks and Spencer also has two food shops (one in the town centre store and another food only offer at Broadfields Retail Park) in Aylesbury. Lidl and Aldi both have two shops in Aylesbury and one each in Buckingham.
Winslow has a range of interesting boutique shops, including clothes shops and antique shops. Winslow also has a small garden centre (Lakers Nursery on Furze Lane).
In terms of clothes shopping, you will find most high street brands in Aylesbury (either in Friars Square, Hale Leys, High Street or in one of the retail parks). Buckingham provides a smaller selection of shops but has some interesting independent offers.
You will also want to consider Milton Keynes, which is a major shopping destination with almost every major brand in large format stores. Bicester Village is a famous outlet centre for major fashion brands and is well worth a visit if you are looking for a bargain on premium items.
There are two petrol stations that are broadly equal distance (7-8 minutes) from the village in Whitchurch and Winslow.
Electric Charging points are generally attached to shops and hotels. One of the closest options is at Lucas Furniture, next to Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station.
Vital if you have just moved into the village and need a takeaway to be delivered! Whilst there are a range of takeaways within the surrounding areas, there are three based in Winslow that deliver to North Marston. These are Chutney Jacks (Indian), Aroma (Chinese) and Winslow Kebab and Pizza.
